Folic Acid — impurities and related standards
All 4 Folic Acid-related compounds in the CATO catalogue, listed with their CAS numbers, molecular formulae and stock status. If the compound you need is not listed, send the structure or the impurity designation and we will check whether it can be synthesised or isolated.
Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin of the B group, used in human medicine for the treatment and prevention of folate deficiency and as a nutritional supplement. Its molecule is a pteridine ring joined to para-aminobenzoic acid and a glutamate residue, and each of those junctions is a point of chemical instability: oxidation and photolysis generate pterin-type degradants, hydrolysis can release pteroic acid, and the glutamate portion may vary in chain length. The standards listed here cover EP-designated folic acid impurities together with further non-compendial impurities and a sulfate salt form, all supplied as individual characterised lots for identification, forced-degradation work and quantitative related-substance testing by chromatographic methods.
