Peonidin Chloride is an anthocyanidin chloride, the aglycone of peonidin glycosides found in berries, red grapes and other plant sources, and is characterised by the formula C16H13O6 Cl together with a molecular weight of 301.27 for the cation and 35.45 for the chloride counter-ion. Because anthocyanins occur as complex mixtures of glycosides and acylated derivatives, a defined aglycone standard is useful for method development and validation, for identification and confirmation of chromatographic peaks in natural product and food analysis, and for quantitative calibration of colorant content.
